The Annual Scholarship

The Robert Gablosky Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 by the family of the late Robert Gablosky and is administered by the GHAA.

In 1971, Mr. Gablosky founded the Greater Haverhill Arts Association. He was greatly esteemed in the community as an artist, teacher, and journalist.


This scholarship seeks to encourage local students pursuing a serious career in the visual arts.

Eligibility:

  • Graduating high school seniors (public, private or home-school) are eligible to apply if they plan to continue their education in the arts, and are currently residing or attending school in the districts of Haverhill, Methuen, North Andover, Masconomet, Pentucket or Timberlane.

  • Enrolling in a two-or-four-year college to continue studies in the visual arts (in the broadest sense of the word, not excluding graphic design, architecture, sculpture, etc)

Details:

  • The scholarship amount will not be less than $1,000 annually

  • Deadline for applications for 2024 is May 3

  • Winners are announced and presented at the reception of the GHAA Annual Open Exhibit at the Buttonwoods Museum.

Application:

  1. Completed Online form

  2. Copy of college acceptance letter

  3. Copy of high school transcript

  4. Artist statement (2 pages, double-spaced limit); include mention of artwork done outside of school; speak about your creative process - the why and how.

  5. Link to portfolio:
    - 7-10 images of favorite artworks, 3-D work should include images from 2 viewpoints
    - Description of artworks as to size, medium, material/support, year completed, and indication of whether it was a class assignment or independent work
    - Optional (for extra credit) 2 additional images of journal pages showing idea sketches, process notes, etc.
